Décor Galore

Story by Kathy Warren and Photography by Ed Mann

Each year, many of us can't wait for Thanksgiving dinner to be over so that we can shop for a Christmas tree (or put up an artificial one), drag bins of decorations out of the attic, and fill the branches with sparkling lights and cherished ornaments. It's a ritual that brings back fond memories of childhood and the eager anticipation of Christmas morning and gifts from Santa.

When you are young, you sometimes imagine what it would be like to have your whole house filled with Christmas trees - one in every room, each with a different theme. For Mike and Jalayne Wheatley, that dream is a reality. What started out as a way to transform their home into a magical wonderland for their children has evolved into something that family and friends look forward to each year. "We started putting up a tree for each child, and then it grew to a tree for each room. The trees grew into our family tradition and friends loved sharing the tradition with us."

During the holidays each year, the Wheatleys' home is filled with trees in all shapes and sizes. There are big trees, small trees, feather trees, white trees, and even an upside down Christmas tree. Each tree has its own special theme, and brings personality to the room in which it resides for a short time each year.

Though their children are now all grown, the tradition lives on at the Wheatleys' beautiful home. Today, they share their Christmas spirit with friends and family, bringing out the child in all of us once again.
